Projects
The Anvil from hell..  I started like every
one else making ingots but one of the
first designs I wanted to try was an anvil
pattern.  This is the result after many
failures but I think I may be beginning
to get the hang of this metal casting
stuff.
As you can see it wasn't perfect
and still needs a little work but it
is acceptable to me.
I decided that charcoal was too expensive and messy so I started using propane.  The burner was sent to me by
Todd Lane for free Thanks!

After using propane for a little while I decided that cost too much too.  I decided to try Natural Gas.
I added an outlet to the NG supply
running into my house.
Next I started construction on a Natural Gas burner.
The above image is as far as I have gotten.  It does lite
but I need to add a tee so I can add a blower.  That will
be the next step.  Then I can determine if it needs a
flare and if the orifice is sized correctly.  The current
orifice is about 1/8 inch and since my Gas supply is low
pressure....that may be way too small.
I have been using stainless steel
crucibles in my furnace and it seems to
eat them up pretty regularly so I
ordered a clay graphite crucible.  Hope
it last longer and I need to order a
couple more smaller crucibles.
I included a picture of the coffee can for
size comparison.  This crucible holds
about 16 pounds of molten Aluminum.
