F.I.D.E.M. Medals
The F.I.D.E.M. (an International Medal Federation), was established in 1937.  Its purpose is
to promote the art of medals at the international level and it accomplishes this goal mainly
through publications and the organization of international events.  FIDEM organizes a
congress every two years and an international exhibition of art-medals in order to promote
exchanges among artists and to make their work known internationally.

FIDEM operates in over 30 countries worldwide.  It is represented by a delegate and a
vice-delegate in every country who maintain regular contact with the artists, FIDEM
members and other people interested in the art of medals within that country.

The medals minted to represent the FIDEM Congress were created by an Artist from the
host country.  In some instances there are other associated FIDEM medals.

was born Jan 3, 1924 in Romania.  After WWII,
he studied in Florence and Rome before
emigrating to the United States in 1951.  He
designed and created many famous works
including the official 1985 Inaugural President
Reagan-Bush Medal and at least 190 other
medals as well as art in other media.

limited to a mintage of 500.  It celebrates the 50th
anniversary of the International Medal Federation
(FIDEM).

Obverse:  Cinquantenaire, Colorado Springs,
Federation Internationale De La Medaille, 1987 Fiftieth
Anniversary.

Reverse:  F I D E M around designs of 15 medal-like
circles showing the dates of FIDEM conventions from
1937 Paris to 1985 Stockholm.  Most  designs show a
well known landmark or emblem of that city.

Guy-Charles Revol sounds French to me but I
understand he is Portuguese and the medal was struck
by the Portuguese Mint in Lisbon.
